The Bench Jewellery School & Workshop is dedicated to delivering quality programs for the community and jewellery industry. We offer jewellery classes to the absolute beginner, the aspiring maker and to the professional jeweller.
Our Jewellery Courses
The Bench offers a variety of jewellery courses for the beginner to the professionally trained jeweller, including specialised jewellery technique classes. We aim to skill individuals at the same level as vocational training courses through high quality, personalised education and training.

The Teachers
The Bench offer exceptional tuition taught by professionals. Our teachers are certified in Jewellery Trade and Manufacturing and have each worked within the jewellery industry between 10 and 25 years. The Bench embraces the philosophy of ‘Slow Learning’ and encourage you to realise your potential, develop it and do it!

The Bench Workshop
The Bench is a modern, industry standard workshop, complete with a wide inventory of tools and equipment. A relaxed place to learn traditional and contemporary jewellery techniques, a space to develop ideas and projects. We have everything you need and things you didn’t know you needed!

The Building
The Bench is located at the exquisite historic site, Joynton Avenue Creative Centre in Green Square. The former South Sydney Hospital comprised a group of brick buildings dating from 1911. Within the precinct, the Joynton Avenue Creative Centre occupies the Esme Cahill building, which was the nurses’ accommodation block, opened in 1938.

The Bench is an open window to learn, design and share by creating experiences and fostering the next generation of makers. It is a place to work, discuss ideas and share knowledge, a laboratory for the creation of jewellery.
The Bench acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional custodians of our land – Australia. The Bench acknowledges the Gadigal of the Eora Nation as the traditional custodians of this place we now call Sydney.
